On the morning of Thursday, November 7, 2024, a fire broke out at the Tops Bar-B-Q located at 3023 Thomas St in Frayser, according to the Memphis Fire Department.
This incident follows the temporary closure of another Tops location on Summer Ave, which shut down just three weeks ago due to a fire that started in the restaurant’s barbecue pit.
Thankfully, no one was injured at either location. Both restaurants will remain closed until repairs can be made, though officials hope to reopen the Summer Ave location by the end of the year.
“We appreciate the work by the Memphis Fire Department to extinguish the fire and our quick-thinking employees who reported the fire, which we believe was caused by mechanical issues,” said Tops CEO Randy Hough in a statement. “At this time, the Thomas Street location will be closed until repairs can be completed. We are working to determine the extent of the damage and a plan for repairs and reopening.”
Hough confirmed that the fire at Summer Ave was also caused by mechanical issues.
On a more positive note, Tops is planning to open a new eatery in Corinth, Mississippi, where it will serve its signature barbecue and burgers.
