A fast food franchise known for its root beer and burgers is planning its first Memphis-area location.
A&W Restaurants is headed to 7911 U.S. Hwy 51 in Millington, taking over a former Pizza Hut site.
Franchisee Hussein Salloukh told The Daily Memphian that the “all-American food” franchise is comparable to Whataburger or Sonic. He expressed excitement about bringing the brand to the Memphis region.
A&W currently operates over 500 locations nationwide. In addition to its signature burgers and root beer floats, the menu features chicken tenders, sandwiches, hot dogs, and a variety of sides and sweet treats. Salloukh is particularly fond of the double mushroom onion melt and sriracha cheese curds.
Salloukh plans to open three A&W restaurants in the coming years, with the Millington location set to debut in spring 2025.
“Hopefully, we will produce some really good food and make people happy, and people keep coming back,” Salloukh told The Daily Memphian.
