On September 23, 2024, Casablanca announced that the 1707 Madison Ave eatery would be “getting a fresh new look.” A call to the restaurant prompts a text from owner Aimer Shtaya:

Hello loyal customers. This is Aimer Shtaya, the owner of Casablanca Restaurant. I want to begin by thanking you for your infinite support and loyalty. The location on Madison Ave is currently closed for interior and exterior renovation including new set of furnitures, new flooring, new paintings, and a new patio.

Shtaya immigrated to the U.S. in 1996 and has since opened several Middle Eastern restaurants in Memphis. He launched the first Casablanca in Cooper-Young in 2004, selling it in 2010 to relocate to Poplar Ave.

In 2012, he opened a third location on Germantown Pkwy, which was sold the following year. In 2015, he launched the Madison Ave location. A new Germantown restaurant on Poplar Pike opened in 2017 but has since closed. The Poplar Ave eatery is the only Casablanca currently in operation.

Casablanca offers a variety of Mediterranean dishes, including soups, salads, sandwiches, desserts, and entrees like the Shawarma Platter, Grilled Salmon Fillet, and Vegetarian Couscous.

While there is no set reopening date for the Midtown location, Shtaya hopes to resume operations as soon as possible. For renovation progress updates, follow Casablanca on Facebook.
