The company recently applied for a commercial new construction permit to open a brand new 2,092-square-foot drive-thru/dine restaurant, according to permit details. Randy Washburn of Burroughs Restaurant Group owns and operates all three locations in the Memphis area and one in Oxford, MS. There is no exact timeline for this opening, considering permits are waiting for approval, and this will be a brand new building on the east side of the Southland Mall.

Founder Hal Guthrie opened a restaurant in Haleyville, AL, in 1965 before realizing in 1978 that the chicken fingers would be the main focus, along with delicious sauce. The family opened their first chicken finger-only restaurant in Auburn, Alabama, in 1982. All chicken fingers are served with either french fries, coleslaw, or Texas toast. The fast-casual chain has grown to 48 locations across the United States, with active plans to expand further. Burroughs Restaurant Group is also working on opening new locations in Olive Branch and Whitehaven.

“And now, more than half a century later, Guthrie’s continues to be a famous institution,” according to the company’s website. “We are blessed to have had our family business grow over the past 55 years. We are looking forward to serving multitudes in the years to come. Hal’s oldest grandchildren are opening their own Guthrie’s restaurants and becoming involved in the Guthrie’s business.”
