Lao Sze Chuan will take over the former Ghengis Grill location at 5849 Poplar Ave, Suite 117, in the Ridgeway Trace shopping center.

Originally established in 1998 in Chicago’s Chinatown, Lao Sze Chuan has expanded to more than 15 locations across the United States.

Founded by Szechuan-born Chef Tony Hu, the menu features a variety of authentic Szechuan offerings, including fried rice, noodles, vegetable dishes, and tofu specialties, along with unique desserts such as Golden Sesame Balls and Japanese Strawberry Shortcake.

Lao Sze Chuan has garnered acclaim as the Best Chinese Restaurant in Chicago from several mainstream food publications, as well as numerous national awards, including “The Best Chinese Restaurant,” “The Most Authentic Chinese Food,” and recognition as one of the “Top Ten Chinese Restaurants in the U.S.” It has also been named the “Best Chinese Restaurant for Celebrating Chinese New Year.”

Local marketing agent Derek Wong told What Now Memphis that the new eatery is slated to open in the spring of 2025. For the latest updates, be sure to follow Lao Sze Chuan on Facebook and Instagram.
