Empire Sports Bar & Grill, a new venture by Romona and Terry Watts, is set to make waves in Memphis at 1934 S 3rd Street. As a family-driven project, Romona, a former IRS employee, envisioned leaving a lasting legacy—one that her three sons could be proud of. Motivated by their culinary passion and sports enthusiasm, the Watts settled on the concept of a sports-themed restaurant, as reported by Communities Unlimited.

Facing numerous challenges in securing funding, Romona’s determination led her to Communities Unlimited (CU), where Economic Development Loan Officer Chris Tillman played a crucial role. With support from various resources within the organization, Romona’s persistence finally paid off.

The sports bar, currently under construction, aims to bring positive attention to the community, especially considering the pandemic’s impact on local businesses. Once operational, Empire Sports Bar & Grill will offer a diverse menu, featuring wings, burgers, quesadillas, and a build-your-own pizza bar. Romona plans not only to fulfill her hometown dream but also to expand into other parts of Tennessee, ensuring a legacy for generations to come. The restaurant’s opening date is yet to be announced.
