Originally constructed as a grocery store in the early 1900s, the name “Fable” was thoughtfully selected to honor the building’s storied history. What truly sets this culinary destination apart is its unwavering commitment to storytelling, intricately woven into every facet of the restaurant.
An opulent marble etching featuring the character “Puck” from Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream adorns the building’s roofline. “The reason why we chose ‘Fable’ as the name for the restaurant was to tie into the history of the building. The play that Shakespeare wrote is a fable; it’s a story. So, we thought it would be fitting for the space and our desire to tell a story to everyone who enters the restaurant,” revealed building owner Jared Welch.
As we enter Act 2, the story continues in Fable’s interior design. Collaborating with Murphy Maude Interiors of Nashville, the restaurant incorporates subtle but delightful elements from classic fairytales. Welch noted, “It’s kind of a hidden garden, very whimsical… Each area has different elements of classic fairytales, and it’s really unique anytime you sit somewhere new. You’ll see little bits of storytelling in the space.” With 190 seats, a stylish lounge, an open kitchen, and a bar for the books, Fable will no doubt offer an enchanting ambiance and an unforgettable experience.
But the enchantment doesn’t end with the ambiance. Fable’s Executive Chef, James “Rickey” Leslie, introduces an innovative twist to the culinary experience. Much like the captivating twists and turns in classic fairytales, the menu promises to leave diners spellbound with familiar Southern dishes, such as shrimp and grits, infused with international flavors and influences.
The allure of Fable extends beyond the world of haute cuisine; it’s an invitation to become a part of a timeless narrative woven through history, design, and culinary creativity.
