In late 2023, What Now Memphis reported that the Happy Mexican situated at 385 S 2nd St in Memphis would soon transform into a lively taco cantina, featuring a new name, a bigger patio, and an updated menu. The restaurant was slated to open its doors by the end of November 2023, but the renovations took longer than anticipated.
At the time of the initial report, the establishment had not yet finalized its new name. However, it appears that owner Rafael Ramirez has settled on “Second Street Tacos & Tequila.”
Located on the building’s south side, the new concept has replaced Happy Mexican, complete with a fresh menu inspired by Ramirez’s California roots. While Second Street will offer fish, birria, and shrimp tacos, the new menu hasn’t been introduced yet, as Happy Mexican patrons remain loyal to the original offerings.
