Waffle House Inc. recently requested a new construction permit to open a brand new restaurant between Arby’s and the West Canaan Cemetery, according to permit details. If approved, the company will build a brand new restaurant on a vacant lot. There is no exact opening date, but the project could take a few months to complete. While the company has at least a dozen locations throughout the greater Memphis area, this will be the northernmost site in the company’s portfolio. The next closest Waffle House is in Arlington.

When this location opens, likely next year, customers can expect the company’s simplistic menu, which features a breakfast and a lunch/ dinner side. While the breakfast staples, including chicken and waffles, and lunch/dinner options, such as burgers and sandwiches, are always reliably delicious, the restaurant has gained popularity from its welcoming environment that is open 24 hours daily. Waffle House is considered one of the best late-night restaurants where you can get breakfast at any time of the day.

The restaurant, founded by Joe Rogers Sr. and Tom Forkner in 1955, now has over 1,900 locations in 25 states. Tennessee is the sixth largest market, with over 130 locations. While the company began franchising in the 1960s, it is extremely hard to become a franchise owner. The company has become a household name after being referenced in popular music by several big-name musicians, as well as being featured in several movies, most recently in 2018’s Love, Simon.
